Profile
Who am I? Mostly a software hacker but an occasional hardware hacker as well. I started programming about 20 years ago and have worked in most programming languages at one time or another including C, C++, Perl, Pascal, Modula-2, REXX, even stuff like COBOL and Forth.I wrote and released a few long-forgotten shareware programs back in the early 80's before I discovered the concept of Free Software. Since then I've created or helped on a number of free software projects even though my full-time job mostly involves commercial development. Like most hackers, I've submitted the occasional patch to a wide range of projects as well (including a line or two of mod_virgule, which I use to run robots.net) and I've helped port other Free Software. Back when I was using OS/2 fulltime, I made the first OS/2 ports of libpng and zlib (well before either had reached version 1.0).
I'm a member of the Dallas Personal Robotics Group and work with embedded computers ranging from 8bit Motorola and Intel chips to full-blown PCs. I've got several perpetually unfinished robotics projects at any given time and can sometimes be found at the First Saturday Sale here in Dallas, TX. I maintain the Robot Competition FAQ which you may have seen floating around comp.robotics.misc. As a member of VAPS, I restore vintage 80's era arcade video games from time to time. I'm also an ODP/DMOZ editor. My company, NCC, is based in Dallas and does website design, software development, and other interesting stuff.
What else can I tell you about myself? The usual geeky stuff... I read lots of books of all kinds, I'm a Science Fiction fan and attend conventions once in a while, I have quite an interest in artificial intelligence (remember the AI CD-ROM, that was one of my projects). I have too many interests to list them all here.
A friend of mine has entered an SEO contest. If he wins, he'll donate the prize money to a charity. Help him out by adding a link like this to your website: V7ndotcom elursrebmem for Celiac Charity.
