Profile
Note to fellow ODP Editors: My editing will slow down a bit this summer, as I work on new projects: John Rose's Vintage Radio Home . RCI - A Technician's Unofficial Tour - particularly vexing in that the subject keeps changing.
Day job: Electronics Technologist for Radio Canada International, at the Sackville shortwave transmitter site, since 1997. - previously: Electronics Technologist for Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (Northern Service), at the Western Arctic Regional production centre in Inuvik, NWT, Canada. 1986-1997. We produced current affairs programs and broadcasted in English, Inuvialuktun, and Gwich'in. - mature student at: Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton AB, Canada 1984-1986 - before that: Print Program Director at the Holman Eskimo Cooperative, Holman NWT. 1976-1984 - student at: Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada. 1973-1975 ... Lotsa' printmaking, especially Lithography (real Bavarian limestone, leather rollers, the works). My idea of a good time: - Collecting and restoring antique radios, mostly Canadian-made five-tube sets from the '40s and '50s. - Hunting down items to add to my family history. (mostly Scottish emigrants to Nova Scotia, Canada) - Winter: Sitting in a big comfy recliner chair while doing a British-style cryptic crossword and listening to a CD of music by Maurice Ravel or Gabriel Fauré and sipping from a 16 oz. mug of my Weapons-Grade Hot Chocolate. (See my home page for the link to my recipe.) - Summer: Searching for the perfect beach within an hour's drive, somewhere on the Northumberland Strait. I missed the beach during my years in the North. - The Annual Pipers Picnic at Earltown, Nova Scotia. Baked beans, potato salad, home-made rolls, and lots of bagpipes, rain or shine. Can't ever have too many bagpipes. Preferences
