Profile

Thanks for taking the time to read my profile.

I've been an avid fan of modelling for many years, from the early plastic kits that were terribly crafted and cast, to the large 1:1 vinyl and resin kits of today I love them all. Although I've modelled for years, my love for miniatures and scale modelling was kindled in the mid-80s when a friend showed me a copy of White Dwarf (monthly magazine from Games Workshop)

The sheer scope of what can be accomplished is really up to you, you decide what you want and then make it 'flesh' by accurate depiction in your model. There is only one hobby where you can keep painted naked figures side-by-side with gruesome horror replicas like the Cenobites of Clive Barker’s Hellraiser series in one cabinet and have them admired for beautiful art - its the most fantastic hobby ever!

I've made so many friends in the hobby over the years that I just can't list those top painters, modellers, sculptors and even manufacturer's empoyees I know in such a short space. There is a great spirit of comradeship and sharing of information to modelling, which you can take great advantage of to learn how something is done, like that perfect leather coat or the feathers on that undead chicken king (or whatever you like to paint).

I specifically enjoy the combination of figures and accurately depicted settings that are often called dioramas or vignettes - from film, television, novels or even just the warped thoughts in my own mind; its all good and whatever you do, no matter how big or small it offers the same challenge and excitement.

I really enjoy the challenge that creating lifelike images and scenes brings, and you can almost always find me experimenting with new techniques, methods or accessories; such as paints, powders or scenic products to create that expressive look in my finished pieces. Consider me the mad scientist of miniature painting, mostly everyone else does!

I also enjoy sharing experiences and knowledge with others and spent many years in teaching - although that was in business and computing disciplines, the principle is the same - and I think that modellers are very much a rare breed, since no model, even completed with the same paints and accessories, will ever be the same, and we can all benefit from learning new ideas, experiences and techniques from other, fellow modellers.

If you have questions, comments or ideas about modelling, and would like to share them with someone, please don't hesitate to email me at elliott@ellsweb.com

Take care, happy modelling!
