Profile

I'm bookmama, AKA booklover, because my passion is reading and writing. Knowing that, you'll understand why I am involved in proofreading e-books for Project Gutenberg, among many other volunteer and professional projects.

I recently married the most awesome, wonderful man who puts up with my quirky, absent-minded creative-type personality. (Yes, he loves me even when the dust bunnies are screaming to be set free and dinner is burning on the stove because I got caught up in another online project and forgot what a good wife is supposed to do.) Sometimes, he takes care of those dust bunnies and turns off the stove before fire takes over. He's a real keeper! Oh yeah, did I mention that he's a creative type himself? He is currently working on his first novel (yes, I'm editing it for him, LOL!)

Currently, I work exclusively online, teaching and editing. I have over twelve years' classroom experience and I currently tutor students in writing and/or English for high school, university and graduate level work. In addition, I write and edit as a consultant for different publishers. (I worked 20 years in publishing, before and during my teaching career.) I also do transcription work for various secretarial services. (Typing is a no-brainer and helps me wind down from the other, more intense brain challenges I face every day.)

When I'm not being a wife, teacher, writer or editor, I'm surfing the web for new and interesting ideas about writing, editing and teaching, which brought me to DMOZ, which sparked my curiosity about editing for a directory, and here I am! I figured I might as well put my "spare time" into helping surfers find quality sites.

I enjoy writing, and I enjoy reading about writing and the writing of others even more, like that of up and coming writers. Which brings me to another fun thing I have done on the web, critique writing for writers at Critters.org.

Now all of these paying and non-paying, volunteer-type things may seem strange to you normal-type humans, especially if you care about the green demon, *money*, but if you're a poor creative type, walking on the weird side isn't strange at all. And who knows...someday, I may just write the Great American Novel! Or direct my own online school! In which case, I'll probably still be a poor creative type, because it seems the masses don't read the "Greats"...*sigh*...and I really haven't met any wealthy teachers...well, anyway, I have a lot of reading, writing, teaching, and editing to do now, so if you'd like to chat further, email me... I'll be surfing the *blue nowhere* :)

Oh, another proud moment in my life (before my marriage) was when I won the award for "Best New Reference Editor"!!!...."You like me...you really like me!"...Thanks to everyone who voted for me and thanks to the one who nominated me and to everyone else who works so selflessly to make this the greatest directory ever!
