Kids and Teens

The Kids and Teens and International Kids and Teens are proud to announce that the directory that puts kids first has reached the 40,000 website mark! Our largest growth spurt has been within the International section of our directory, as we continue to add new kids and teens sites in a variety of languages. Kids and Teens is always interested in adding new languages to International, so if there are editors out there who would like to contribute their expertise in this area please let us know. We'd love to have you join us.

Kids and Teens editors continue to develop categories and add sites of interest for our young users; among them has been ishtar who has done some outstanding editing within the Science and School Time categories; xixtas who has been tackling the often mysterious world of Bands_and_Artists; kaelcol who has been involved with straightening out the Sports and Hobbies was inspired by the Winter Olympics to put together the Winter sports category; desertjules continues to add and improve the Health categories for kids and teens. And over in International you can always find florawilberforce, filex, and tutuolaf solving problems and helping to expand this area of the directory. These are just a few of our dedicated kids and teens editors.

Mention should also be made towards a few of our projects. sole was the catalyst behind adding the Best Kid Friendly Search Engines. The idea was to replace the "grown-up"list (AltaVista - A9 - AOL - Clusty – etc.) provided at the bottom of all Classic category pages with kid friendly search engines. After discussion, the following children's search engines were added to the directory: AJKids - AOL@school - Awesome Library - Google - KartOO - KidsClick! - ThinkQuest Library - Yahooligans . But, there's more! benjiwiebe inspired by this idea decided to locate kid friendly search engines in German language and add them in the International/Deutsch section of Kids and Teens.

It’s nearly impossible to keep up with the energetic makrhod. She has been involved in numerous projects, but I’d like to mention one that is affectionately called "Pot Luck". makrhod encouraged and offered keditors the opportunity to "review" a variety of different websites that she would mix and send to them. They would review the site, write a description, and send it to a Test category (similar to Greenbusting but on a smaller scale). This gave newer editors or editors without permissions a taste of what reviewing sites outside their categories would be like. The "Pot Luckers" were able to add quite a few new and valuable sites to Kids and Teens. Great work, gang!!

A project that Kids and Teens is still involved with and in which we welcome comments and contributions involves Safety on the Internet. We take safety of our youngest users very seriously. Kids and Teens is already a self-contained directory with no outside links to Classic. We have started a Wiki to address this issue.

Kids and Teens is always looking for new editors, new projects, and categories that will add value to the directory. If any of you have a special area of interest or expertise or just like to play around... you might consider becoming a Kids and Teens editor!

Finally, we extend a warm welcome to our newest Kmeta, benjiwiebe.
