Arts
Since the last newsletter Arts has continued to develop and grow at a great rate. We are once again approaching 300,000 listings, thanks to the contributions of editors working in the branch.
New editors are arriving on a daily basis and current editors are expanding their permissions to include Arts categories. In October last year we launched an expansion to the Welcome Wagon; a forum thread called "New Editor Appointments". The idea being we take time to welcome new editors to the branch, but sometimes we don't know what happens after we welcome someone to their first category. The new thread is being used to announce new permission approvals in Arts. It will also help us become more familiar with who is looking after which categories and give us the opportunity to welcome editors joining us from other areas of the directory.
New categories are also arriving regularly thanks to the efforts of many editors including gieselle, tameeria and assistantdirectorman. There is always room for more categories, many movies, television shows, authors, actors, bands and artists don't have a specific category or have categories that need development. If you see a film or have a favorite actor or band, please consider building a category for them in bookmarks or maybe apply to edit the current categories to help build them up. Any help is always welcome and greatly appreciated.
There is a good selection of projects going on in the branch at the moment as well as some that have recently been completed:
- The Arts/Photography re-organization has been completed, the Solo Exhibitions layer was removed and a new 'By Topic' category was created to help users find their way around.
- Several quality control projects are on-going to ensure that dead links and redirecting URLs are corrected.
- Arts/Literature/World_Literature/Australian/Children's/ has been expanded and re-organized thanks to the efforts of aeclark.
- Editors from several branches of the directory are helping to develop a proposal to re-organize Arts/Design/Fashion/
- gavink is working to improve the structure of Arts/Music/Instruments/Stringed/Guitar
Finally, congratulations are in order for two active Arts editors; artisands and arubin, who have recently been granted editall/catmv permissions.
