Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873) - one of the founders of geology as a science in England. He defined and named the Cambrian period. Born in Dent, Cumbria.
Wegener (1880-1930) was a German scientist and polar researcher who is best remembered as the father of the theory of "continental drift."
