The military conflict (1953-1959) that is known as the Cuban Revolution. This period in Cuban history is generally considered to have started with the failed attacked on the Moncada army barracks in 1953, and to end when dictator Batista fled the country at the beginning of 1959. While the revolutionary efforts of Fidel and Raul Castro, Che Guevarra, and others in the Sierra Maestra are best known, during this time student and labor urban revoluntionaries also participated in undercover acts of sabotage, and overt military action.
