Windham County is located in the Southern Region of Vermont. It is bounded to the north by Windsor County and to the east by the Connecticut River. The southernmost border is the state of Massachusetts and to the west is Bennington County. The county seat is Newfane and as of the year 2000, the population was 44,216.
