The Central Coast includes the production areas of Arroyo Seco, Arroyo Grande Valley, Carmel Valley, Chalone, Cienega Valley, Edna Valley, Lime Kiln Valley, Livermore Valley, Mount Harlan, Paicines, Paso Robles, San Lucas, Santa Maria Valley, Santa Ynez Valley, San Ysidro District, York Mountain, and Contra Costa. Although it surrounds the Santa Cruz Mountains American Viticultural Area, it does not include that area.

The Lodi American Viticultural Area is in California's Central Valley, located directly east of San Francisco at the eastern edge of the Sacramento River Delta. It extends from just north of Stockton to just south of Sacramento, and is bordered on the east by the Sierra Foothills. Towns in the region include:

The Santa Cruz Mountains lie between the Pacific Ocean and the San Francisco Bay, occupying parts of San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties. The Santa Cruz Mountains American Viticultural Area is surrounded by the Central Coast American Viticultural Area, but is not part of it.
