Developed by Sony Online Entertainment (formerly Verant Interactive), PlanetSide is the first massively multiplayer online first-person shooter (MMOFPS). Players assume a role as a soldier in one of three empires and either expand or defend that empire's interests, on a planetary scale. PlanetSide was released May 20, 2003. PlanetSide: Aftershock was released in October, 2003. It is a bundle of the original PlanetSide as well as the Core Combat expansion.

Outfits are to PlanetSide what Clans are to other MMO games. Groups of people who team up together long-term to battle other groups. Many Clans/Outfits participate in more than one game, so be sure to check out the related categories as well. Each Outfit is unique to each server. As of Friday, December 5, 2003, there are three servers: Emerald (US East), Markov (US West), and Werner (Europe). There is also a Public Test server.
