Formed in 1907, Como Calcio first reached Serie A in 1949-1950, and had their best ever finish that season, placing sixth. After two short stints in Serie A in the 1980s the team dropped as far as Serie C. In 2001 Como placed second in Serie C1, winning promotion to Serie B, which it won the next season with a record 74 points to secure promotion to the top division.
