The Greensboro Monarchs began play in the East Coast Hockey League as an expansion team in 1999. The team's home ice is the Greensboro Coliseum, in Greensboro, North Carolina.Greensboro is also the home of the former Greensboro Monarchs ECHL franchise, which moved to the AHL as the Carolina Monarchs in 1995. The Monarchs were displaced for two years by the Carolina Hurricanes.
