The American Hockey League (AHL) granted an expansion franchise to Bridgeport Pro Hockey LLC on March 28, 2000. The team is expected to begin play in the 2001-2002 season in a new facility in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and it will be called the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
