Submit sites that relate generally to Lutheran forms of worship, music, and hymns. Please submit to the respective subcategories those sites that deal uniquely with liturgics or hymnody.
Martin Luther said, "Music is an outstanding gift of God and next to theology."

The Lutheran Church has a history of liturgical worship. A structure to worship is one of the defining attributes of Lutheran worship forms. Music forms an integral part of the liturgical form of worship and is used in conjunction with the worship service as well as with hymns.

Martin Luther was a composer as well as a reformer and wrote a number of well known hymns such as A Mighty Fortress is Our God. The Lutheran church has quite rightly been called the "singing church".

Calendar

Submissions should relate to the various parts of the Church Year, whether overviews and calendars or commentary upon specific seasons, days, or observances.

Lutherans follow a church year similar to that of other liturgical bodies. It begins in Advent and is anchored by the three major festivals of Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost. There are also many minor feasts and commemorations through its seasons. Normed by the appointed Gospels, the days and seasons follow the life of Christ, the growth of the Christian Church, and echo also the ebb and flow of human life and emotions.

Hymns

Please submit information specifically about hymns and hymnals written or used by Lutherans.

Hymns are to be distinguished from religious music. The former are based on a scriptural text while the latter are expressions of religious feeling without direct reference to Scripture.

Liturgics

Sites should be specific to liturgical theology. If they also deal to any measureable degree with hymnody or hymnals or with other parts of Lutheran theology, please choose a category more in line with the content.
This branch of theology deals with the content and application of the liturgy and other service orders used in the Lutheran Church.

The liturgy is the form and structure of Western Christian worship. In Lutheranism, it is often called Gottesdienst, that is, God's Service or the Divine Service. This is because the Lutheran theology of worship is normed by the Doctrine Justification by Grace through Faith in Christ and sees worship first of all as God's action upon man and only secondarily man's response to God.
