Nicholas Garlick, a priest, was executed at St. Mary's Bridge, Derby, in 1588, and beatified in 1987.
Nicholas Horner, a lay tailor, was martyred at Smithfield, London, in 1590 for harboring priests. He was beatified in 1987.
Fr. Nicholas Postgate, the "Martyr of the Moors," was arrested while baptizing a child. He was executed in 1679, when he was about 80 years old. He was beatified in 1987.

Blessed Nuno of St. Mary, (Nuno Alvares Pereira)Carmelite Brother, Portuguese patriotic hero, founder of the Royal House of Braganca. Born June 24, 1360. Died in Lisbon April 1, 1431.Blessed Nuno is known as "The Holy Constable", the"Precursor of Fatima","the Peacemaker" and "the George Washington of Portugal".
His Memorial is now celebrated on the Carmelite calendar on April 1. In times past, it was celebrated on November 1and November 3.
Blessed Nuno was beatified by Pope Benedict XV on January 23, 1918. His cause for sainthood is being promoted in Portugal by the Ordem do Carmel de Portugal (Lisbon) and in the United States by The Blessed Nuno Society (Duluth, MN).
