Fraternal organizations identify themselves as brotherhoods and/or sisterhoods, with lifetime memberships, shared ideals and principles, and ritualistic traditions. These organizations may be formed with different purposes, including social interaction, public service, or mutual benefit (such as financial services or insurance for members).

Benefit Societies

Fraternal benefit societies provide social, educational and community service opportunities and offer members life, accident and health insurance and/or annuities.

Although all fraternal benefit societies are unique, by law each must:
•Be not for profit
•Have a representative form of government
•Have a system of local lodges
•Provide insurance and other benefits to members

Fraternal Order Orioles

The representatives of eleven bodies of men met in the City of Rochester, N.Y., on August 10, 1910. They were imbued with a desire to found a fraternal order whose sole mission in life was to teach to men the true principle of Fraternity: Liberty, Integrity, Fraternity, and Equality (LIFE).
