Bali Bombing, 2002

The bombing of a nightclub in Bali on 12 October 2002, which killed 202 people, including 88 Australians.

Khobar Towers, 1996

On June 25, 1996, a powerful truck bomb ripped through the Khobar Towers, an apartment complex housing American, Saudi, French, and British troops at an air base near Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. The explosion killed 19 servicemen and injured 500 Americans and Saudis.

London Bombings, 2005

A series of explosions struck London's transport system on July 7, 2005, during the morning rush hour.

Pan Am 103, 1988

On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 from London to New York exploded at 31,000 feet over Lockerbie in southern Scotland, killing all 259 on board and eleven people on the ground. The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch concluded that the crash was the result of "the detonation of an improvised explosive device located in a baggage container".

Summary of events:

Tokyo Sarin Attack, 1995

On March 20, 1995, members of Aum Shinrikyo released sarin nerve gas on five Tokyo subway trains. Twelve people were killed and just under 3,800 were injured.

USS Cole, 2000

On October 12, 2000, the USS Cole was refueling in Aden, Yemen, when two people steered a small boat loaded with explosives alongside the ship and stood at attention as the small craft blew up. The explosion, which tore a large hole in the port side of the ship's hull, killed seventeen sailors and wounded thirty-five.

US Embassy Bombings, 1998

On August 7, 1998, a bomb exploded near the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya, killing 212 people -- twelve of which were Americans and 31 of which were Foreign Service Nationals -- and wounding 4,650 people. At almost the same time, a bomb exploded near the United States Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, killing eleven people, including seven Foreign Service Nationals from the Embassy, and wounding 72 others.
