The Illiniwek or Illini Confederacy (though they were more of a large tribe than a true confederacy) was the dominant people of the Illinois area that now bears their name; today there are about 2000 Illinois in Oklahoma. Peoria and Kaskaskia were the sub-tribes of the Illini from whom most surviving Illinois descend.
