2   Q: Why organic?
A: "Conventional" (non-organically grown) cotton uses more insecticides than any other single crop, including some of the most hazardous pesticides on the market. It takes approximately 1/3 lb. of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides to make a 1 lb. cotton t-shirt.

3   Q: Is "natural" cotton the same as "organic" cotton?
A: No. The term "natural" is used to distinguish cotton from synthetic fabrics like polyester or rayon. All cotton is natural; not all cotton is organically grown.

4   Q: What is colorgrown cotton?
A: Some varieties of cotton naturally grow in colors other than white. Using colorgrown cotton, one can make colorful products without using dyes.

5   Q: Are artificial dyes, bleaches or other chemicals used in the manufacture of organic cotton products?
A: "Organic" generally refers to the conditions under which the cotton was grown, so later processing steps may make use of artificial chemicals. Some manufacturers do make chemical-free products; check with the individual vendor to find out.

6   Q: What about the conditions of the workers who grow the cotton or manufacture the products?
A: The "organic" label is unrelated to working conditions or labor rights, though workers on organic farms may benefit from less pesticide exposure. Some vendors sell "fair trade" organic products or provide information on the workers who create their products.
