Computational Engineering is high performance computing for engineering analysis and simulation. It typically involves parallel and vector capabilities and networking systems. New algorithms and analytic techniques are also used to enhance the power of these computational tools.
The Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) section contains sites about computational methods for solving fluid dynamics problems.Typical problems in CFD include simple incompressable laminar flow, turbulence, compressibility, multiphase flow and reacting flows.
Computational Structural Mechanics (CSM) covers the modeling of materials and structures subjected to a broad range of loading conditions.A well-known subset of CSM is Finite Element Analysis (FEA). FEA is a common numerical method used to solve stress analysis or "simulation" problems.
CSM encompasses a very wide range of engineering problems in solid mechanics such as:
Linear elastic stress/strain/deformation analysis Structural response to time dependent loading (transient) Large deformation analysis Shock wave propagation, seismic qualification Plasticity and fatigue analysis Frequency response, dynamic/modal analysis Nonlinear and composite material behavior Heat transfer and thermal stress
