Top: Science: Environment: Climate_Change: Desertification

This category includes scientific topics about the change from soil that is suited for farming to land that cannot be reasonably used in such a manner.

Websites that cover the topic of prediciting drought should be submitted to Science/Earth_Sciences/Meteorology/Weather_Phenomena/Drought

Webpages that discuss preserving current desert ecosystems to preserve habitats should be placed in Society/Issues/Environment/Conservation_and_Endangered_Species/Ecosystems_and_Habitats/Deserts.

Desertification is a man-made or natural process of degrading arable land into that which has such poor soil that farming is not possible or is nearly impossible.

Human causes include over-farming, leveling forests for farm land or urban development, and the use of river dams. Natural causes include climate change toward less yearly rainfall, and erosion caused by water, wind or gravity.
