Submissions for this category should relate to the animal and plant life of the Paleozoic Era. Of particular utility would be sites dealing with aspects of Paleozoic paleontology that are not currently well covered in the category.
Sites that deal specifically with individual periods of the Paleozoic (ie: Devonian) should be submitted to that category:
Science/Earth_Sciences/Paleontology/By_Geological_Interval/Paleozoic/Devonian/
Sites relating to the tectonics, stratigraphy, geography, climate or other aspects of the era may be added to in order to provide a more complete view of Paleozoic Earth. However, most of these sites would be better submitted to another category such as:
Science/Earth_Sciences/ Paleogeography_and_Paleoclimatology

The Paleozoic, or "Old Life", Era is sometimes called the "Age of Fishes." It began with the Cambrian Explosion, a short period of time in which an enormous diversification of complex life occurred, and ended with the great Permian/Triassic mass extinction. It is composed of the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Carboniferous (Mississippian and Pennsylvanian in North America), and Permian Periods. This category is for any website dealing with the Paleozoic fossil record.

The Cambrian marks the beginning of the Phanerozoic, the age of complex life. While living things have a fossil record going back several million years, complex life forms diversified at a dizzying pace in the Cambrian. The Cambrian fauna includes many familiar groups, but also includes a large number of extinct, and very unusual, fossil taxa. This category is for any website dealing with the Cambrian Period.

The Carboniferous Period, or the Age of Coal, is sandwiched between the Devonian and Permain Periods. In North America, this period of geological time is divided into the Mississippian and Pennsylvanian. Submissions for this category should relate to the animal and plant life of the Carboniferous period.

The Devonian Period, 410 to 360 million years ago, is best known as the "age of fishes".While it's true that fish experienced an explosive radiation at this time, it also marked a major change in the terrestrial ecosystem as life began to move wholesale from the water to the land.
This period saw the widespread colonization of the land by vascular plants and the formation of the first forests, while beneath their spreading branches the newly evolved tetrapod animals took their first tentative steps out of the water.

Submissions for this category should relate to the animal and plant life of the Ordovician period. Of particular utility would be sites dealing with aspects of Ordovician paleontology that are not currently well covered in the category. Sites relating to the tectonics, stratigraphy, geography, climate or other aspects of the period may be added to in order to provide a more complete view of Ordovician Earth. Submissions for this category should relate to the animal and plant life of the Silurian period. Of particular utility would be sites dealing with aspects of Silurian paleontology that are not currently well covered in the category. Sites relating to the tectonics, stratigraphy, geography, climate or other aspects of the period may be added to in order to provide a more complete view of Silurian Earth.
