The Sirenia are a small order of endangered marine mammals. There are four living species (three manatees and the dugong) and one recent extinct species (Steller's Sea Cow, in the dugong family).
The family Dugongidae, consisting of one living species, the Dugong (Dugong dugon), and one recent extinct species Steller's Sea Cow (Hydrodamalis gigas).
The family Trichechidae, consisting of three species, Trichechus inunguis (Amazonian Manatee), Trichechus manatus (West Indian Manatee), and Trichechus senegalensis (West African Manatee).
