The Bois Forte Indian Reservation consists of three parcels of land:

  1. The Deer Creek Reservation, a township-sized area in Itasca County, near Effie.
  2. The Nett Lake Reservation, in Koochiching and St. Louis Counties, surrounding Nett Lake.
  3. The Vermilion Lake Reservation, on a peninsula on the southeast end of Lake Vermilion, north of Peyla and directly west of Tower, across Pike Bay.

In exchange for a cessation of land near Lake Vermilion, the United States sets aside a parcel of land surrounding Lake Netor As-sab-a-co-na (Nett Lake) and a township at the mouth of Deer Creek as reservation lands for the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa.
