Air Combat

The primary provider of air combat forces to America's Unified Combatant Commands (brought all USAF bomber, recon, and fighter wings under one roof; essentially a post-Cold-War merger of the Tactical Air Command and the Strategic Air Command).

Air Mobility

Provides airlift, air refueling, special air mission, and aeromedical evacuation, supplies forces to theater commands to support wartime tasking, US Transportation Command's single manager for air mobility.

Materiel

Researches, develops, tests, acquires delivers, and logistically supports all AF weapons systems.

Pacific Air Forces

Principal air component of USPACOM. Pacific and Asian area of responsibility includes Alaska, extends from west coast of the Americas to the east coast of Africa, from the Arctic to the Antarctic.

Space

Launches/operates military satellites; tracks/catalogs 8,000 orbiting objects; provides navigation, weather, missile warning, satellite communications, and intelligence support to warfighters; maintains combat-ready force of 530 Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) on alert around the clock.

Special Operations

Provides special ops forces for worldwide deployment and assignment to regional unified commands for: unconventional warfare, direct action, special recon, conterterrorism, foreign internal defense, humanitarian assistance, psyops, personnel recovery, and counternarcotics.

US Air Forces in Europe

The air component of EUCOM, it provides responsive forward presence and decisive air and space power for the US and the NATO. Covers Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia from 14 installations with 73,000 people, including 26,000 active-duty airmen.
