The Center makes sure that safe and effective drugs are available to improve the health of consumers. CDER ensures that prescription and over-the-counter drugs, both brand name and generic, work correctly and that the health benefits outweigh known risks.

Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition

The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, known as CFSAN, is responsible for promoting and protecting the public's health by ensuring that the nation's food supply is safe, sanitary, wholesome, and honestly labeled, and that cosmetic products are safe and properly labeled.

Center for Veterinary Medicine

The Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) regulates the manufacture and distribution of food additives and drugs that will be given to animals. These include animals from which human foods are derived, as well as food additives and drugs for pet (or companion) animals. CVM is responsible for regulating drugs, devices, and food additives given to, or used on, over one hundred million companion animals, plus millions of poultry, cattle, swine, sheep, and minor animal species.

National Center for Toxicological Research

The mission of the National Center for Toxicological Research is to conduct peer-reviewed scientific research that supports and anticipates the FDA's current and future regulatory needs.

Office of Regulatory Affairs

The Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA) is the lead office for all Field activities of the Food and Drug Administration.

Office of the Commissioner

The Office of the Commissioner (OC) is responsible for the efficient and effective implementation of the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) mission.
