The town of Fanning Springs, located on the Suwannee River, straddles the Gilchrist and Levy County lines.

A fort built at the site in 1838 during the Second Seminole War was renamed in honor of Colonel Alexander Campbell Wilder Fannin. While the fort is long gone, the springs still bear his name.
