Quartz Hill is a small unincorporated area of L.A. County that sits on the West Side of California State Highway 14 ("the freeway") between Palmdale and Lancaster.The surface streets in the Antelope Valley form a grid, with east-west avenues one mile apart named by letters (Avenue M, Avenue N, etc.) and north-south streets one mile apart named by numbers (10th Street West, 20th Street West, etc.). In between the Avenues a sixteenth of a mile apart of sub-avenues with names like M-4, M-5, etc. Avenue M-8 is half-way between Avenue M and Avenue N. Similarly, sub-streets that run north-south are a tenth of a mile apart, and named 11th and 12th Streets West, etc.
Quartz Hill is centered at Avenue M and 50th Street West. (Watch out for cops; the speed limit is 35 MPH, and they mean it!)
