East Los Angeles (also affectionately known as "East Los") is a large unincorporated area to the immediate east of downtown L.A. It's an easy commute to downtown, which is about four miles away. Buses, Metrolink commute rail and four freeways make for good transportation options. The area is both hilly and flat. Population (current year estimated for East Los Angeles CDP) is 131,255. Estimated number of households for the same period is 29,896.

This community is attractive to immigrants for its affordability and sense of community. East Los Angeles features some of the oldest houses in the Los Angeles area. Over one-third of the houses are owner occupied. The homes in the northern section are located in the hills; the rest of East Los Angeles is generally flat.
