Boulevard is rural community in the southeast corner of San Diego County. Its name was chosen by settlers to reflect that the community was built on the "boulevard" connecting San Diego to Imperial County. Today, most traffic between San Diego and Imperial County uses Interstate 8, which passes just a mile north of the community. Only local traffic uses the former boulevard, currently named "Old Highway 80."
Its population, including surrounding areas, is 1,496, according to the 2000 census figures for the Boulevard ZIP code, 91905.
