Arcata is home to a great number of artists. In fact, Humboldt County, home to Arcata boasts the greatest number of artists per capita in the United States (http://www.thepalette.com/). Every year, artists in Arcata and the rest of Humboldt County open their doors to the public for Northcoast Open Studios (http://www.northcoastopenstudios.com/), but they are working continually throughout the year. Some artists are nationally recognized, while others are greatly appreciated mostly in our local community. Their work can be see in sculpture, murals, paintings and drawings. A few local galleries exist to showcase artists' work, and many artists have their own galleries.
