Bouchard, Lucien

Federal Progressive Conservative cabinet minister who resigned after the failure of the Meech Lake constitutional accord to form his own separatist party, the Bloc Québécois. Following the 1995 referendum on Quebec independence, Bouchard took over the leadership of the Parti Québécois and became Premier of Quebec from 1996 to 2001.

Woodsworth, James S.

J. S. Woodsworth (1874-1943) was a Methodist minister and social reformer active in the Social Gospel movement. He came to prominence in Winnipeg during the 1919 General Strike and was soon elected to Parliament as a Progressive and then as an independent. In the 1930s he became active in the creation of a new socialist party, the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation and was elected its first leader.
