The title should be either the company's name or, where it seems more appropriate, that of the site itself -- and no more than this. In other words, phrases like "Welcome to ..." and "Your friendly/local ..." are both superfluous and destined for deletion. In turn, the Description should be free of personal pronouns and worded the way an observer and/or reviewer of the site would describe it and its content. Thus "Our mission is to serve your needs" needs altering to something like "Company's emphasis is on customer service." In effect, the title and description should simply let people know who's at the back of it and what information it contains or conveys.
This category contains sites that have an overall focus on all (or sometimes part) of Ontario's Niagara Region, which contains the counties/districts of Brant, Haldimand, Niagara, and Norfolk.

The major portion of the Niagara Region is taken up by the Niagara Peninsula, which lies between Lake Erie on the south and Lake Ontario on the north, with the Niagara River forming its western border and the City of Hamilton its eastern one. In other terms, the Peninsula encompasses the Regional Municipality of Niagara, the City of Stoney Creek, and eastern part of the recently created Norfolk County.

Note: The Localities categories linked to this Regions category contain sites that have a more localized association with it. On the whole, each of these sites is allocated to the municipality that contains its bricks and mortar address. In turn, the categories that contain these sites are broken down into subcategories as the sites start to exceed a manageable number. This subdivision is based on the existence of groups of sites that have an obviously -- or at least somewhat -- similar content.

Arts and Entertainment

While there are several locally indexed sites -- such as the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake and the Grape and Wine Festival in St.Catharines -- this category indexes sites that can be considered region wide in nature.

Business and Economy

The requirements are essentially those that apply to most ODP categories. Thus the title should at least approximate the company name or that of the website; and the description should be worded objectively and contain facts rather than sales hyperbole.
Although the innumerable businesses in the Niagara Region are indexed in the different Localities categories, a few sites belong in a Regional category of its own.

In particular, this category provides a gathering point for the Wineries that exist throughout the Region, other than those that are concentrated in and around Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Education

Although most education sites are indexed locally, one or two, such as Niagara College, are more regional in scope and belong in this category.

Government

The individual municipalities have their own categories, but this one indexes the Regional Municipality's official website and others put out by related agencies that serve the region as a whole.

Health

While sites such as clinics are indexed according to their location address, this regional category lists a number that offer and/or provide services to a regionwide population. Most of these sites represent information/discussion resources rather than treatment centres.

Recreation and Sports

Sites in this category cover hobbies, sports, and a variety of recreational activities. Although there are some indexed in specific Localities, the few listed here have a region wide application.

Society and Culture

This category can cover a wide range of topics regarding human relationships and activities. Its present content is more limited, however, because regionally based sites rarely deal with matters of a particularly broad reach. Nevertheless, it does serve as a convenient point for indexing sites related to health, art, entertainment, and similar issues that concern people living in all parts of the Niagara Peninsula.

Travel and Tourism

The Niagara-on-the-Lake and Niagara Falls categories contain the main concentration of sites related to the region's accommodations, attractions, events, and similar topics, but a few less localized sites are indexed in this regional category.
