National Liberal Democrat sites and sites for Associated Organisations appear at this level. Please submit Local Party, LDYS, MP and Councillor sites to the appropriate more specific categories below this one. Please make your site title and description as concise and objective as possible. Otherwise, your input may be changed by the category editor, who knows less about your site than you do, but does know how things are described in the Open Directory. Please use your main URL; do not use redirected addresses such as come.to/wherever. Describe what is on your site, not what you plan for the future. But do come back and update your submission when you add new things to it. |
Sites for or relating to the Liberal Democrats in the UK."The Liberal Democrats exist to build and safeguard a fair, free and open society, in which we seek to balance the fundamental values of liberty, equality and community, and in which no-one shall be enslaved by poverty, ignorance or conformity." (Preamble to the Party Constitution).
| Only submit a site here if it is solely about a candidate, and cannot reasonably be listed elsewhere, such as under Local Parties, MPs or Councillors. |
Sites promoting a particular declared or prospective candidate, including parliamentary and council candidates. Also available for people promoting themselves within their parties with a view to selection. Some sites listed here may be for prospective candidates or spokespeople who have not declared as actual candidates. Listing a site here does not constitute declaration of anyone as a candidate, unless the site itself does so.
Currently most sites here are for candidates who stood in the previous General Election. They are retained for historical purposes. Sites which recorded success in that election will have been moved to the MP category!

Liberal Democrat Local Party organisations each cover one or more Westminster constituencies. They may include Local Branches, which typically cover one or more wards within the Local Party area. Every Party Member is automatically made a member of a Local Party, normally the one where they live.Local Parties are an important element in the structure of the Party. They elect delegates to Regional Conferences (or State Conferences in Scotland and Wales), and to the Federal Conference, which develop the Party's policy and its Constitution. Most members feel loyalty to Local Party first and the Federal Party second, which is how it should be in a party which believes in devolving power to the lowest level practical, rather than in centralising it.

Normally this category lists the Liberal Democrat Members of Parliament at Westminster.During the General Election, parliament is dissolved, and there are no MPs until the election is over. During this period, any representation in this category listing of a person as being an MP is invalid, and should be read as "former MP".
Due to the delays in updating and in propagating information to other sites which use Open Directory data, it is not practical to ensure that all descriptions are updated, hence this blanket disclaimer.
