This category covers the whole of the ceremonial county of Somerset and includes the two unitary areas of North Somerset, and Bath and North East Somerset.

Located in the south-west of England, Somerset was 'founded' in approximately 1015 AD and was then called Sumaersaeton. Whilst the historic and ceremonial county of Somerset covered more than a million acres, its modern administrative successor is smaller, as some areas in the north have now become unitary authorities.

The ceremonial county has a varied landscape from Exmoor in the west across the Quantock Hills to the Mendip Hills in the east. It has a rugged coast-line along the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary.

Somerset is home to the Roman city of Bath with its elegant Georgian architecture, Cheddar with its gorge, and Weston-super-Mare, holiday resort to many Midlands families.


Allerford

The village of Allerford comprises some 70 homes on a National Trust estate which forms parts of Exmoor National Park.

Designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the City of Bath is renowned for its Roman Baths and Pump Rooms, Royal Crescent and Georgian architecture. It has a thriving arts scene with numerous museums, galleries, and festivals.

Beckington

The village of Beckington is located close to the Somerset/Wiltshire border just off the A36 about 9 miles south of Bath.

Blagdon

Blagdon is a small village within the Chew Valley area of the county. Situated on the northern edge of the Mendip Hills, it overlooks Blagdon Lake.

Brent Knoll
