Located in the departamento of Sacatepequez. Also known as Antigua Guatemala, the city was the Spanish colonial capital of Central America. Today it is a UNESCO Heritage site, with well-preserved homes and church buildings from that era. It is noted for large Easter celebrations, including parades along routes of colorful "carpets" made from sawdust.
Located in northern Alta Verapaz, the community is primarily Q'echi' Maya. It suffered much violence during the civil war, but since then has been growing rapidly in population, due to a high birth rate and an influx of people seeking free land grants from the government.
