This category is for Japanese traditional (non-Western) netsuke, which are small sculptured works used as a stopper to keep the cords of small bags, tobacco containers, etc., from slipping through the belt of a kimono. They have a history of over 300 years, but with Japanese starting to wear western clothing more in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, their recognition has gradually declined.Websites in Japanese should be submitted to World: Japanese.
