Bankura is located in the western part of West Bengal. It is a part of Bardhaman Division of the State and included in the area known as "Rarh" in Bengal. It is bounded by Midnapore and Hooghly district in the East, Purulia in the West, Burdwan in the North and again Purulia and Midnapore in the South. Bankura is triangular in shape with a total area of 6882 Sq.km
Barddhaman district is named after Barddhaman Town. Both are also known under the spellings Barddaman, Burdwan.

West Dinajpur district was created out of the erstwhile Dinajpur district in 1947 at the time of partition of India. The rest of the Dinajpur district is now in Bangladesh. The West Dinajpur district was enlarged in 1956 at the time of reorganization of the State with the addition of some areas of Bihar. The district was bifurcated into Uttar Dinajpur and Dakshin Dinajpur on 01.04.1992. The erstwhile Balurghat sub-division along with Banshihari and Kushmandi blocks (which were in Raigunj Sub-Division prior to the bifurcation) comprise the new district.
Darjiling district is situated in the north of West Bengal and is bordered by Nepal, Sikkim, Bhutan and Bangladesh as well as other parts of West Bengal.

Hooghly district is known for Bandel Church, Debanandapur, the birthplace of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee, Joyrambati and Kamarpukur, the birthplaces of Sri Ramakrishna and Maa Sarada Devi. The headquarters of the district is at Chunchura.The Portuguese founded Hooghly, also spelled Hugli, in 1537 following the decline of Satgaon, the mercantile capital of lower Bengal; it was also the first English settlement (1651) in lower Bengal until it was abandoned in 1690 for Calcutta.

A district with abundance of deep forests with wild life and tea plantations. District headquarters is at Jalpaiguri. The main railway station is at New Jalpaiguri which is connected by express trains to all major Indian cities. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is world famous and connects NJP and Darjeeling. This railway has been declared a UNESCO heritage site.

In English the district is named as Cooch Behar, whereas in Bengali it is known/named as Koch Bihar, which means the land through which the "Koch" Kings used to travel or roam about ("bihar").In course of time, Cooch Behar has been transformed from a kingdom to a state and from a state to the present status of a district. Before 28th August 1949, Cooch Behar was a Princely State ruled by the king of Cooch Behar, who had been a feudatory ruler under British Government. The transfer of administration of the state to the Govt. of India came into force on 12th September 1949. Eventually, Cooch Behar was transferred and merged with the province of West Bengal on 19th January 1950 and from that date Cooch Behar emerged as a new district of West Bengal.

This district is located between Latitude N 24 o 50' and N 23o43' and Longitude E 88o46' and E 87o49'.The district got its present name in the early eighteenth century and its present shape in the latter half of the eighteenth century. The earliest evidence of history in the district date back to the pre-historic days perhaps as early as circa 1500 B.C.

The District of Uttar Dinajpur came into existence on 1st April 1992 after the bifurcation of erstwhile West Dinajpur district. The District lies between latitude 25o11' N to 26o49' N and longitude 87o49' E to 90o00' E occupying an area of 3142 Sq. Km enclosed by Bangladesh on the East, Bihar on the West, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri District on the North and Malda District on the South.
