1.1   Q: What might I find in the Scouting Category?
A: You will find web sites related to all aspects of the scouting program, resources, groups, history, and numerous other topics. Browse around the category to get the big picture.

1.2   Q: What are the main components of the Scouting category?
A: There are four main components of the category.
First - Regional: in this sub-category you will find general sites that relate to scouting in a specific country or region of the world.
Secondly - Organizations: this sub-category lists the major international scouting organizations and national associations, including their local councils and groups.
Thirdly - Topics: there are a wide variety of topics, from Collectibles and History to Resources, Campsites and Events.
Forthly - Alternate Languages: there are currently scouting categories in 23 other languages. Connect to them by clicking on the name of the language.

2.1   Q: Who started Scouting?
A: Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell is recognized as the founder of Scouting.

A: It is generally accepted that scouting began in August of 1907 when Lord Robert Baden-Powell held an experimental camp on Brownsea Island.

A: There are about 25 million members of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and 10 million members of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). There are also a large number of participants registered with independent scouting organizations.

2.4   Q: Who started the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts?
A: At the first gathering of Scouts in 1910 Lord Baden-Powell found that girls had also joined scouting. He enlisted the aid of his sister Agnes to begin the program. Later, his wife Olave took a leading role. Juliette Low of the United States began Girl Scouting in 1912 after seeing Scouting in action in the United Kingdom.
