Welcome Scouters and other submitters
This section is for sites of BSA Sea Scouts and Sea Explorer Scouts Ships.

Keep in mind that this is an edited directory. The Editors are all scouters who have volunteered in the ODP. They have developed guidelines for the placement and description of scouting sites. Please do them a good turn - by reading and following these guidelines.

Note
The format of the directory is to start with "Sea Scouts Ship 111 / Sea Explorer Scouts Ship 111" and followed by the name of the ship, if any. The sites are divided by State.

The descriptions are edited to disclose the content of the site, the editor's question is, "what is on the site" - does the site have a photo gallery, activity calendar, leader contacts, etc.
Mission statements, puffery, such as "Greatest Site in America!!! " ; "**Best Ship this side of the Missouri**" etc., will be edited out.

Here is what the editors are looking for in your submission:

Example of Title:
Sea Scouts Ship 123 - Ship Name

Example of Description:
Springfield, Illinois, scouting group, includes leader contacts, meeting times and locations, calendar of events, midi music, interactive forms, downloadable forms, and links

Please describe what type of information is presented.

Do Not use the description to present information.
For example, a statement "Our group meets Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the downtown scout hall on Pine Street"
will be edited out,
and the editor will substitute "meeting time and location".

By following these guidelines you will speed the processing of your submission's entry into the ODP Directory.

Yours in Scouting - 1st ODP Scout Troop
Sea Scout Ships of the Boy Scouts of America.

The Sea Scouts were begun in the United Kingdom by Lord Baden-Powell and his brother, an avid sailor, Warrington Baden-Powell.

Sea Scouting in America was founded in 1912. That year, Arthur A. Carey of Waltham, Massachusetts, had Sea Scouts using the schooner Pioneer and was appointed Chairman of the National Council Committee on Sea Scouting. That summer, Charles T. Longstreth organized the first Sea Scout patrol that had use of his yacht in Philadelphia.

Sea Scouting, now part of the Exploring program, is organized to promote better citizenship and to improve members' boating skills and knowledge through instruction and practice in water safety, and boating skills through a program of sailing, outdoor, social, and service experiences. It also promotes knowledge of American maritime heritage. It is a co-educational program for 14 to 21 year olds.
