Dinosaurs hold a special fascination for children. This category contains sites that are geared toward kids ages 3-18.

Ankylosaurus

Ankylosaurus was the last and largest of the armored dinosaurs. It is well known for its club-like tail.

Deinonychus

A large meat eating dinosaur with a large claw on each of its hind feet. The name Deinonychus comes from two Greek words which put together mean "terrible claw."

Diplodocus

A plant eating dinosaur with a long neck and a long tail. A skeleton 27 metres long (90 feet) has been found. Some think that some of these dinosaurs may have grown much larger than that.

Giganotosaurus

Giganotosaurus ("giant southern lizard") lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It is one of the biggest known terrestrial carnivores.

Iguanodon

These large plant eating dinosaurs were from 6 to 11 metres (20 to 36 feet) long and could weigh about 5 tons. They walked on their hind feet.

Parasaurolophus

The parasaurolophus was a plant eating dinosaur with a distinctive head shape. It had a six-foot long curved crest sticking out from the back of the head.

Spinosaurus

The spinosaurus was a large meat eating dinosaur, that was even larger than the tyrannosaurus. The spinosaurus was 16 to 18 metres (52 to 60 feet) long and was 5 to 6 metres (16 to 20 feet) tall.

It had a very distinctive spine with bones growing up to 2 m long extending from the vertebrae.

Stegosaurus

The stegosaurus had large plates running down its spine and spikes on its tail.

Triceratops

The triceratops is known for its "three-horned face." It was a plant eating dinosaur.

Tyrannosaurus

This large meat eating dinosaur takes its name from Greek words meaning "tyrant lizard." It is also known as the Tyrannosaurus rex.

Velociraptor

The velociraptor was a small meat eating dinosaur, about less than 2 meters long and a meter tall. (Or about 6 feet long and two and a half feet tall.)
