"There is no God but God, and Muhammad is His prophet" is the fundamental statement of belief of a Muslim.

Muhammad was born in Mecca in 570 CE. He died June 8, 632 in Medina.

Muslims consider the Qur'an (or Koran) to be the literal word of God, revealed to Muhammad by the archangel Gabriel. It teaches submission to the will of God. The word Islam means "submission."
