Pyrethrins, known as pediculicides, are extracted from dried pyrethrum flowers (a member of the same genus as the chrysanthemum) and are used as an insecticide,especially to kill head and body lice in humans.

They are frequently paired with piperonyl butoxide which makes the pyrethrins more effective.
