Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong disease that occurs when the pancreas stops producing insulin because of an immune attack and destruction of cells within the pancreas that produce insulin.Previously known as juvenile diabetes. Type 1 patients are insulin dependent and have to inject or use an insulin pump to manage their condition.
