A gland of the endocrine system that produces essential hormones including adrenaline (epinephrine) and cortisol. Located above the kidneys.
Please submit only sites about Addison's Disease to this area.
Addison's disease (also known as chronic adrenal insufficiency, or hypocortisolism) is a rare endocrine disorder. It occurs when the adrenal glands, seated above the kidneys, fail to produce enough of the hormone cortisol and, sometimes, the hormone aldosterone. Addison's disease refers specifically to primary adrenal insufficiency, in which the adrenal glands themselves malfunction.
Please submit only sites about Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia to this area.
An inherited condition that affects the adrenal glands. These glands are located on top of the kidneys and produce three types of hormones called cortisol, aldosterone and androgens. Females with classical CAH are born with masculine appearing external genitals but with female internal sex organs. Males with classical CAH appear normal at birth. Males and females with classical CAH are likely to have trouble retaining salt, a condition that can be life threatening.
Please submit only sites about Hirsutism to this area.
The excessive growth of facial and/or body hair in women. It is usually characterized by the growth of coarse terminal hairs on androgen-dependent areas of the body such as the chin, chest, abdomen, and anterior thighs. Principal causes include abnormal regulation of androgen production by the pituitary gland, elevated androgen production by the adrenal glands or ovaries related to the presence of tumors or cysts.
Submit sites focusing on multiple endocrine neoplasia which can involve benign or malignant tumors.
Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Syndromes: A group of genetically distinct familial diseases involving adenomatous hyperplasia and benign or malignant tumor formation in several endocrine glands.Includes: Multiple Endocrine Adenomatosis, Familial Endocrine Adenomatosis
Submit sites about the type of benign or malignant tumor of the adrenal gland that causes excess release of epinephrine and norepinephrine, the hormones that regulate heart rate and blood pressure.
A benign or malignant tumor that is derived from chromaffin cells and is usually associated with paroxysmal or sustained hypertension. Often found on the adrenal gland but may rarely occur elsewhere in the body. These types of tumors are generally benign (non-cancerous) with less than 10 percent being cancer.
