Only submit sites that are providing information/material related to several titles in the Civ series should be submitted to the main Civilization Series category. Only sites with English content should be submitted here. All other sites belong in the appropriate language specific category under the World category. In the case you don't know which subcategory would suit best for your site, please submit it in the main Civilization Series category and it will be placed in the right place as the site is being reviewed by an ODP Editor. Check the guidelines for information about how to describe your site as that will speed up the listing process. Also note that it's recommended that you submit the URL of your main page (e.g. http://www.blah-blah.com) and URLs that redirect or cloak the actual URL should not be submitted. Instead submit the destination URL of the redirection or the actual URL being cloaked.

Originally released in 1990, the Civilization series is the most highly sold grouping of strategy games ever (over 4 million copies). Sid Meier, original creator of Civilization created a genre that will never cease to give gamers joy for years to come. Civilization II (released in 1996) quickly became one of the most highly sold strategy games ever. Newer titles include Civilization : Call to Power and Call to Power II by Activision [under license from Microprose] and Civilization III [by Firaxis]. Several add-ons have been released for Civilization II and CivNet, a multiplayer of Civilization for Windows.

Call to Power Series

Only submit sites that are providing CtP and CtP2 related information. Sites that have material for only one of the titles should be submitted in the apropriate subcategory. Also note that it's recommended that you submit the URL of your main page (e.g. http://www.blah-blah.com) and URLs that redirect or cloak the actual URL should not be submitted. Instead submit the destination URL of the redirection or the actual URL being cloaked.

The Call to Power series from Activision includes two titles: Civilization - Call to Power and Call to Power II. Call to Power was made under license from Microprose as that allowed the use of the name "Civilization" in the title. However Call to Power II couldn't use it because of the legal conflict between Microprose and Firaxis. Call to Power was released April 1999 and CtP2 in December 2000.

CivNet

CivNet is the first Civ game with multiplayer game support and is run in Windows, instead of DOS.

Civilization

Civilization is the first sequel of the famous Civ series from MicroProse and Sid Meier.

Civilization II

Only submit sites that are providing Civ II related information. Sites that have material for a specific expansion add-on should be submitted in the apropriate subcategory. Also note that it's recommended that you submit the URL of your main page (e.g. http://www.blah-blah.com) and URLs that redirect or cloak the actual URL should not be submitted. Instead submit the destination URL of the redirection or the actual URL being cloaked.

Civilization II is developed by Sid Meier and Brian Reynolds, and it was published by Microprose in 1996. This title has had several additional expansion sets and it's still a very popular empire building game for Windows.

Civilization IV

Websites dealing primarily with Civilization IV can be submitted to this category.

Following these guidelines will allow us to add your site to the directory as quickly as possible.

  • Use your site's actual title.
  • Create a brief description, under 25 words, listing the current content of your site (not the future content).
  • Do not use first person verbiage (we, our, us).
  • Do not use marketing verbiage. (We're the best!, Most awesome site, Check it Out!)
  • Avoid using terms such as much more, lots, more, or anything else that would indicate that there is more to your site than what is in the description. Take the time to list out what the site has instead of using these terms.
  • Your description should resemble descriptions of sites already listed in the category.

Democracy Games

Submit your democracy game in the appropriate subcategory. Only sites that cover democracy games in general belong in this category

In a democracy game, the whole community plays the same game, and the same civilisation. Many people decide commonly what we should do next. Nobody has the same absolute power as a player has when playing the game alone. This is called "Democracy" game because all citizens participate, and all give input on how we want the game to be played. For example, nobody has the power to declare war to America, it needs a vote. If a majority of citizens want war with America, then war is declared.

Technically, this is a single player game. Only one player gets to play the game physically: the President (elected every month). Everyone can access his save. Nobody can "play ahead" on this save, meaning acting before the president actually does it on his own computer. But the President has to obey the ministers (also elected every month) who give precise orders each turn. Each minister is specialized in a specific field : war, science, economy, workers, city planning, diplomacy.

The ministers often consult the people via polls on what policy they should promote. When they poll the people, ministers have to follow the poll, or risk losing all credibility. The people can also express their views whenever they want.
