Animated GIFs (Graphics Interchange Format) files are images created using an image editor capable of storing multiple images in a single file. Specified as the GIF89a that contains within the single file a set of images that are displayed in a precise order. As with flip cards when the images are played in rapid succession, the characters or items seem to have movement. Because GIF files can be looped (continuous) or single run, they can be used on web pages or in banners to create an effective illusion of movement.
Cartoon dolls are popular with teens as avatars in chat programs and as graphic signatures on discussion boards. Most of the dolls you see on websites began as simple building-block avatars on Palace chat servers. Now many doll enthusiasts create original dolls using paint programs, and make them available for adoption by others.
