Many older recording media are no longer considered practical storage media for music and audio. Also, due to their age many recordings existing in those formats have become degraded by time and usage. Some businesses offer services to either repair the sound quality of these recordings or transfer the contents of the older media to new formats such as CD. Such services may also be used as a matter of convenience when converting an existing recording for use in new situations.
