Whoever accused me of biting the hand that feeds me? :) Welcome to the largest category in my Bookmarks - dedicated to the ODP itself. Most stuff you'll find in here are useful to me (and probably to you, too), some may just be funny. But I'm sure there'll be something for everyone here.Enjoy!
This category is for threads that I plan to keep an eye on. They may also be listed in Archives, but this is a one-click stop for me to check up on forum threads.
This category is now obsolete. The new category is at Test: ODP: Category Documentation. This category is for archive purposes.
This category is for ODP records - that is, things like the longest category name, the largest forum thread, the longest-running non-staff editor, and so on.Records are dated according to their first post/edit. Thus, editor profiles/logs are dated according to the editor's first edit, categories are dated according to the first edit made within them, forum threads are dated according to the date of the first post, and so on.
If you would like to contribute, please post to this thread: http://dmoz.org/forum/threaddisplay.cgi?t=Forum3/HTML/000504.html
Thanks! :)
The Big Red Button was an April Fool's joke played on unsuspecting ODP editors by staff on April 1st, 2001.It consisted of a note on the dashboard looking something like this:
Note
Do NOT the Big Red Button! If you proceeded to push this button (and let's face it, an invitation like that means that most of us did), a cookie was set that told the DMOZ server to report that your categories (and indeed, anybody else's who you could see the editor stats of - for example, by @link'ing to them) had no sites in them. This didn't apply to unrevieweds and errors, which unfortunately still showed up (but the sites which the errors were for had of course been swallowed by the cookie).
The button's code was reset at a later date, meaning that the code now does the opposite (ie. if you were caught by the joke, you could now press it to get your sites back).
This category sets about to amass all the forum threads resulting from the joke, who some people didn't see as quite so funny...
